Darth Vader #5 cover detail

Pipeline #1016: “Darth Vader”

I’m not a huge “Star Wars” fan.  I like it just fine, though.  Fun movies.  Never got into the extended comic book universe, and I couldn’t name ten alien species if you asked me to.

The new Marvel comics, though, are things to get excited about.  This week at ComicBook.com, I took a look at the first ten issues of the new Kieron Gillen/Sal Larroca series. Hot on the heels of the Jason Aaron-penned “Star Wars” title, this one runs parallel to that, even picking up on common scenes here and there, but telling an all new and interesting story.

It feels in many ways like a classic superhero team book, but you’ll have to read the column to see why I’d say such a thing.

There are also some thoughts in there on the role programs like Sketch-Up play in creating comics these days, as artists become directors even more than artists at times…

It’s such a good series that I plan on devoting more time to it here on this site in the days ahead.  Stay tuned for that.

Also, am I the only one reminded of “The Shield” a little bit when reading this series?  It’s like Darth Vader just robbed the Armenian Money Train…

In the meantime, click over to ComicBook.com for my initial thoughts on the series.  Maybe when “Rogue One” hits theaters, Comixology will have another sale and I can complete my run of the series for 99 cents an issue.
