If you&#8217;ve never used this trick, you&#8217;d be amazed at how well it works. Try it with something you&#8217;ve drawn on a piece of paper. Take it into the bathroom and hold it up to the mirror above the\u00a0sink. If something is wonky, you&#8217;ll spot it instantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>In the digital world, it&#8217;s a bit more awkward to hold a mirror up to the computer screen to see the art reversed.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, a lot of image manipulation programs will have a shortcut to reverse an image for you on the screen.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clip Studio Pain has a way to do this, of course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Navigator Pane<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"383\" height=\"444\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-218\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pipelinecomics.com\/learncsp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/05\/mirror_navigator_labels2.jpeg\" alt=\"Mirror your Clip Studio Paint image in the Navigator panel\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pipelinecomics.com\/learncsp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/05\/mirror_navigator_labels2.jpeg 383w, https:\/\/www.pipelinecomics.com\/learncsp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/05\/mirror_navigator_labels2-259x300.jpeg 259w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 383px) 100vw, 383px\" \/><br>Flipping an image in CSP is as easy as a button press in the Navigator pane. \u00a0If you don&#8217;t see your Navigator pane, look for the Sub View or Item Bank. \u00a0By default, those tabs share the same pane. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Switch over to the Navigator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>In the bottom right corner, you&#8217;ll see a couple sets of arrows that will flip the image for you. \u00a0The one on the far right will flip the image upside down. \u00a0The\u00a0one just to its left where the triangles point to each other across a vertical line is the mirror flip you&#8217;re looking for.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that when the image is flipped in your work area, the Navigator continues to show it in its original, unflipped, state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can click the same button over and over again to look at it in its original state and its mirrored state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use the Menu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don&#8217;t want to interrupt one of the other tabs that are currently showing there, of course, there&#8217;s also a way to do this through\u00a0the menus. \u00a0Go to <strong>View &#8211;> Rotate\/Invert &#8211;> Flip Horizontal.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"595\" height=\"316\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-219\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pipelinecomics.com\/learncsp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/05\/mirror_mene_options.jpeg\" alt=\"Clip Studio Paint mirror menu option\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pipelinecomics.com\/learncsp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/05\/mirror_mene_options.jpeg 595w, https:\/\/www.pipelinecomics.com\/learncsp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/05\/mirror_mene_options-300x159.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 595px) 100vw, 595px\" \/><br>\u00a0<br>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keyboard Shortcut<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike the rotate commands,\u00a0there is no default keyboard shortcut for this. You can, however, make one. \u00a0If this is a technique you plan on using a lot, then it&#8217;s worth it to create a keyboard shortcut for it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0If you&#8217;re on a Mac, click the &#8220;CLIP STUDIO PAINT&#8221; item in the upper left corner of the OS X title bar. \u00a0Click on &#8220;Shortcut Settings.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"811\" height=\"549\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-220\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pipelinecomics.com\/learncsp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/05\/mirror_shortcut.jpeg\" alt=\"Clip Studio Paint Mirror Flip keyboard shortcuts\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pipelinecomics.com\/learncsp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/05\/mirror_shortcut.jpeg 811w, https:\/\/www.pipelinecomics.com\/learncsp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/05\/mirror_shortcut-300x203.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.pipelinecomics.com\/learncsp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2016\/05\/mirror_shortcut-768x520.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 811px) 100vw, 811px\" \/><br>\u00a0<br>In the &#8220;Setting Area&#8221; dropdown box, choose &#8220;Main Menu.&#8221; \u00a0Then click on the same sequence as you did in the menu bar before. \u00a0<strong>View &#8211;> Rotate\/Invert &#8211;> Flip Horizontal<\/strong>. \u00a0Double click on that last one or click on the &#8220;Edit Shortcut&#8221; button, and a spot on the right side will open up for your keyboard shortcut. \u00a0Press the key command you want to use and away you go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>I used &#8220;F&#8221; for flip. \u00a0I was surprised to see that the &#8220;F&#8221; key wasn&#8217;t taken already. \u00a0I was prepared to go with CTRL-F or CTRL-SHIFT-F. \u00a0I got lucky, I suppose.<br>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Further Reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are threads on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wetcanvas.com\/forums\/showthread.php?t=1089342\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this painting message board<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.cgsociety.org\/archive\/index.php?t-865440.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this CG art board<\/a> that discuss why the mirror technique works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Honestly, I looked for more, but the Google search terms are all over the place for this kind of topic&#8230;<br>\u00a0<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s awkward to hold your computer screen up to a mirror to see its reverse, so Clip Studio Paint has a tool to help you with that.
