Pipeline and Sundry: Old Geezers Movie, Zidrou, the Smurfish language, and More
Other Media
- The Old Geezers has a movie coming out this summer, and the first trailer went live on Monday. The casting looks pretty close to the comics, at least.
(This is not to be confused with 2013’s “The Three Geezers”, by the way. Completely unrelated.)
- Blacksad is getting a video game. It’s due out in 2019.
Creators and their Creations
- EuropeComics.com interviews Zidrou, who writes roughly every other book published in France now. This interview might be a good reminder that I’ve read two of his books and written half reviews of them that I should finish and post up here someday…
- EuropeComics.com also has a list of books featuring unusual detectives. Of the seven series mentioned in the article, I’ve reviewed seven of them here.
- Maggie Garrisson
- Jerome J. Jerome Bloche
- Motorcity
- Stern
- Vice Squad
- Blacksad
- Ric Hochet (Ok, this one is one of those half-written/unpublished reviews. Soon….)
- Maybe I need to do a Zidrou week and review a different book of his every day for five days? The raw material is there….

- Something to look forward to: “The Campbells” v5 is available for pre-order in French right now, and it’s due out next week already! Let’s all cross our fingers that the English translation won’t be too far behind.
Meanwhile, In the Marcinelle School
- Save the Smurfish Language! I think this is tongue-in-cheek, but there’s still a petition to sign. It’s a couple years old, but it made me laugh. (I really hope it’s tongue-in-cheek…)
- Speaking of Smurfs, that Peyo sure wore a hat well
- “The Cowboy Who Could Eat a Burger Faster Than His Own Shadow”? Lucky Luke is part of a McDonalds ad campaign in France.
