Pipeline and Sundry: Podcasts, Dad, Lucky Luke, and Jordi Lafebre
European Podcasts
The gang at The Awesome Comics Podcast interviewed Irina Polianina from Europe Comics. Listen from the 27:20 mark for the interview. You’ll get a quick introduction to what the Europe Comics collective is, as well as some of Irina’s favorite books.
If you’re looking for more podcasts discussing European comics in English, check out The Comics Alternative, Euro Comics podcast series. There’s not much of an overlap between what they review and what I review, but that’s a good thing. There’s plenty of stuff out there!
Promotional Materials
The “Dad” series is up to volume 3 in English, but the fifth volume is coming this week to France. I only mention it here because I love this promo image for it:

Sale! Go! Buy!
Europe Comics has a list of 100 comics titles on sale through October 15th to coincide with the New York Comic-Con that’s happening this weekend. There are a lot of great books on that list, many of which I’ve reviewed previously.
This would be a great time to jump on “Alter Ego” or “Karma City” or “Esteban” or “Human Stock Exchange“, for some examples. (Or go straight to Comixology or Izneo to peruse the list.)
Help from High Up
The new “Lucky Luke” book is due in France in just under a month, and Dargaud celebrated with an early reading party with some school kids in Paris. Also in attendance for the photo opportunity: The mayor of Paris. That’s her holding the book up in the second picture.

An Interview with Lafebre

I love “Glorious Summers.” It’s the best book I’ve read this year. (I’m not counting “Asterix,” which I had read previously.)
I was thrilled to run across this interview with its artist, Jordi Lafebre. When asked how long “Glorious Summers” is planned for, he has this answer:
It’s really an open series. We have not planned a specific number of albums. We will pursue it as long as we have good stories to tell and as long as readers respond. But it is true that we feel very well in this series and as the publisher is happy, we work at ease. It’s truly pleasent.
(That’s the Google Chrome built-in translation.)
I’m very excited to hear he’s still enjoying it, and that it’s not over yet. There are a lot of time gaps to fill in yet!
