Episode 55: The Bluecoats: The Business of BD
This is the story of the creation and ownership of The Bluecoats. As the series writer retires, what say does the artist of the series for the past 50 years have? As it turns out, none. I’ll explain.
Oh, and remember “Todd Can’t Count”? The Bluecoats has one of those situations coming up this fall, too.
The reporting that this podcast is based on all came from ActuaBD.com. Here are the links:
This European system is fairly similar to the Image Business model in the US. The handful of Image founders created a few series that they own, then (apart from Erik Larsen, notably) farmed them to a herd of journeymen and cashed in, still do today now that Kirkman joined the board. The MignolaVerse is similar, so is the MillarVerse.
Oh by the way, not sure where you got your info, but there is an intégrale of the Tuniques Bleues, done by Dupuis in collaboration with Rombaldi, I have 15 volumes of it, covering the first 60 books in the series. Last volume came out in 2017. See here:

Argh, that came out of an article or an interview I read somewhere on a French site. I have a feeling that Google Translate might have missed out on a subtlety of the language there. Thanks for leaving this comment. I’ll try to do an update in the next podcast, too….
Fair enough, maybe they were talking about this other integrale which only got a couple of volumes and folded for some reason

Thanks, Augie. The writers’ workshop was actually in Brussels. Great time we had! And we finished up with a Bluecoats to do (and a lot of good food to digest!).
Oooh, Brussels! That’s even better! I hope you make it back to Brussels next year for another dinner. You never know what you might wind up drawing next! =) (You’d do great on “Largo Winch.” 😉
Louis Salverius died 5 years before Rene Goscinny did.
