Show notes art for Pipeline Comics podcast episode #65: Raoul Cauvin and Jordi Lafebre

Episode #65: Raoul Cauvin and Jordi Lafebre

Over the weekend, Raoul Cauvin, veteran Belgian comics writer, announced that his cancer is bad enough that the doctor says he doesn’t have much longer to live. Cauvin is a prolific writer, and I break down some of the wild numbers he’s put up, mostly from the pages of Spirou Journal, over the past 50 years.

I said in the podcast that Cinebook only translated a couple of his “Cedric” books. I looked it up afterwards and realized that they do have seven Cedric books in their catalog from that series:

I’ve reviewed two of his Bluecoats books:

Jordi Lafebre:

In happier news, EuropeComics announced on Monday morning that Jordi Lafebre’s recent album is in the works and “Coming Soon.” This is super exciting news.

Here is the announcement:

I mention in the podcast that Jordi Lafebre is Spanish and then immediately refer to him as a French artist in the next breath. I should have phrased that as “French-published artist,” which would make slightly more sense.

Also, I refer to “Glorious Summers” in this podcast more than once as “Beautiful Summers.” My mistake. I’m rusty at this podcasting thing again, aren’t I?

Trying Something (Relatively) New

I made a video out of the podcast and threw in lots of art as I talked about it.

Like, subscribe, smash a bell. Do what makes you happy. Thanks!

I’ve done this with a couple of other podcasts in the past, but I really worked at putting more images in front of the audio. I could do even more, but who has the time?

  1. Really sad news about Cauvin indeed. For as long as I can remember he was a Staple of Belgian BD at Dupuis, producing so many different series that I can’t count them all. He never reached glittery stardom but he was a reliable journeyman with incredible consistency for so many years. He will be remembered.

  2. Since Cinebook’s Lucky Luke series needs 1 more album to translate into English to get all main Lucky Luke books translated, probably The Bluecoats or Spirou and Fantasio will be Cinebook’s next big series after all 81 existing Lucky Luke books are translated into English by Cinebook.
