Episode 69: Grand Prix Controversy (2021 Edition)

The annual Grand Prix awards from the FIBD (Angouleme) show is down to its final three nominees. But it is who ISN’T nominated and why their votes, in particular, were thrown out that is sparking all the controversy.

But I won’t clickbait you entirely into listening to the show. Here are the Lambiek profiles of the final three:

(Yes, two of those three names are repeats from last year’s nominations, which was the subject of Pipeline Comics podcast episode #35.)

Here is the official press release on the nominations.

ActuaBD.com does great reporting. And the comments are always vitriolic and fun.

For background on the controversy, go back to Episode 38 and Episode 39 of this podcast, all about the Racine Report:

Learning French: I’m using DuoLingo for learning French. Let’s be friends! My daily streak is now past 515! J’ai mangé des croissants hier..

  1. Hey it’s been a while, I was delighted to see this new podcast show up in my queue!

Angoulême controversy is the name of the game, since it now happens every year without fail. My guess is that it’s part of the marketing campaign to get free press. Also known as the Trump method lol.

Btw you should ask your local baker to sponsor the podcast, those croissants won’t eat themselves 😉

    1. Memo to self: Upgrade from croissants to baguettes next week.

The podcast is gaining momentum! I have the next three already recorded and I know what the fourth will be. The only trick now is in not recording something in-between to cover a late breaking story. I failed at that with this podcast. sigh.
